Successful retreat held at Spiritual Life Center

The Sunflower Sangha hosted a very successful retreat at the Spiritual Life Center. 37 retreatants attended from a variety of faith traditions. We were graced by the presence of many Catholic nuns, a Catholic priest, and wonderful gifts from Austin, TX, Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, MO, Omaha, NE, and Springfield, MO. In addition there were many from the Sunflower Sangha represented. Brother Chan Huy gave compassionate dharma talks on how to cultivate peace in our daily lives within ourselves and with each other seeing beyond our differences. We continue to practice every other Saturday at 4-6PM at the Wichita Wat Temple at 5327 N. Broadway (next gathering is this Sat. 11/18). We also invite anyone to join us for weekly meditation every Wed. night 6:30-8:30PM at 727 N. Waco. Blessings to all and an armload of sunflowers to you. Peace is Every Step. Greetings to all! We are drawing near for our first retreat here in Wichita with experienced dharma teacher Brother Chan Huy. We have over 30 persons signed up from Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and Nebraska. We at the Sunflower Sangha welcome all interested persons who seek to deepen their experience with the beauty of nature, others seeking more peace in their lives, and an opportunity to put into practice the reality of interbeing. The Sunflower Sangha in Wichita meets every other Saturday from 4-6PM at the Wat Buddhist Temple 5327 N. Broadway. We sit and meditate, have formal and informal recitation periods, and have dharma discussions but mostly we enjoy each other's smiling faces. The Sunflower Sangha is composed of both Vietnamese and Caucasian practitioners and the wonderful blending of different traditions and cultures is truly one of the strengths of our group. We practice in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh and would look forward to you joining us for the opportunity to practice mindfulness and share.

The Sunflower Sangha is a community who practices in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh who has written over 100 books on Buddhism, mindfulness, and creating true peace in our and others lives. We meet every other Saturday from 4-6PM at the Wat Wichita Temple 5327 N. Broadway in Wichita, Kansas. We practice meditation, have discussions and share our practice with others who wish to deepen their practice of mindfulness and to experience more peace and compassion in their lives. Our next meeting will be Saturday, April 29th. There is also a group that practices sitting and walking meditation every Wednesday evening 6:45-8:15PM in Room 302 at College Hill United Methodist Church 2930 E. First St. Bring a cushion or chairs will be provided. No experience necessary. We look forward to sharing with you and generating the energy of mindfulness which simply means waking up to our present experience with non-judgmental acceptance.

The Sunflower Sangha of Wichita, Kansas is hosting a Mindfulness Retreat Peace is Every Step in the Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh Oct. 27-29, 2006 at the Spiritual Life Center--7100 E. 45th St. North in Wichita. Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk who has written over 100 books and has established monasteries and practice centers in France and the United States. We are very pleased that ordained dharma teacher Chan Huy, True Radiance, from Ottawa, Canada will be providing the dharma talks. We are offering this retreat to deepen the practice of mindfulness and to further develop our compassion for others, for our precious earth, and for ourselves. It will be an opportunity to practice bringing peace to ourselves and to those around us through meditation practice and other ways to calm ourselves and bring joy to our bodies and minds. Vegetarian meals and comfortable lodging will be provided in the peaceful atmosphere of the Spiritual Life Center. Cost per person for a 2-person room will be $135. Check-in will be Friday anytime after 4PM and the retreat will conclude Sunday after lunch. Please reserve this weekend on your calendar for an opportunity to practice mindfulness (non-judgmental awareness of what is happening in the here and now) and the opportunity to share peace, compassion, and joy with others.
